Sometimes we think that life is giving us lemons. It's ok - it is only a matter of time before you learn how to make some damn good lemonade.
So I won a contest put on by the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Connecticut, wherein the project details was to create a 30 second Public Service Announcement (or for those of you who like acronyms: PSA). The focus was to direct the commercial's message to adults informing their children about the risks of underage drinking and to include themselves in the day to day lives of their children in order to maintain good, healthy practice.
The concept was simple, fun and educational: If a parent includes themselves into their children's lives, risks are diminished and there is less of a chance of underage drinking. This commercial ended up winning Technical Excellence, along with First prize. So in the end, all of us come away with an award winning commercial, a cash prize and best of all, COVERAGE. This commercial is going to air for a whole year on Connecticut public access (IE: News 12, Connecticut 3, etc.)
Now, money is great, getting a giant check is awesome, and the recognition of my school's program and everyone's confidence is swell, but the fact that we all get some serious exposure is what makes me the happiest. We all put some serious hard work into making this video real, and if it weren't for the whole team effort, this wouldn't have been "Award Winning."
This brings me to the point, and it's probably the most important point in not just my field, but most fields where we are creative or corporate: We need to work together.
Aside from that, I have my own projects now starting to line up. I'm hoping that this Award Winning feeling isn't going to end up getting me in over my head, but as long as everyone pitches in I should be great.
Hot Dog.
